I am no mechanic, for sure, but I do understand the basic principles of how diesel engines work.

Diesel engines use "injectors" to spray a fine mist of a mixture of air and diesel fuel into the cylinder. The piston pushes it down, compressing it. When a gas is compressed, it heats up, causing it to burn. When it burns it expands, pushing the cylinder down creating the force of the engine.

The injectors are precision made and eventually require servicing. My engines have about 4200 hours on them, and the injectors have never been serviced. I have some long trips to remote areas planned this summer, so I need to get them serviced.

Tomorrow the mechanic will pull them out and ship them south to Seattle to be serviced. He said to expect about a 2 1/2 week down time.

I will try to be patient.
