2026-09-04 Solo Salmon Fishing

My lack of success at salmon fishing this season is getting pretty discouraging. I didn't want to subject any of my fishing buddies to my bad luck, so I decided to make a solo fishing trip.

I pulled out at about 6:30 AM and pulled out a little before 7 AM. There was a brisk NW breeze blowing through the harbor and I appreciated the guy who was walking by that helped me get out of the slip.

I got to the Cammaano Point area (marked with a "1") about 8:15 AM. It took me awhile to get the gear in the water because the swells were big and it was hard to move around the boat. With much effort I got the gear down at about 8:30 AM.

Between 8:30 AM and when I pulled the gear at 11:30 AM I got 5 shaker Kings. These are Kings that are far too small to keep. You don't even need to measure them. I tried different tackle at different depths, but continued to hit these small Kings.

Around lunchtime I pulled the gear and moved over to the Tatoosh Rocks area, marked with a "2."

Same thing over there, 5 more shaker Kings on all kinds of tackle at different depths.

Feeling very discouraged I pulled the gear just before 5 PM and headed in.

I was hoping to get fuel before going into the slip but the fuel dock was plugged so I could not get in there.

I got into the slip without incident at about 6 PM after logging about 47 miles on this unproductive trip.

To finish out my depressing day I got a parking ticket on my truck. Apparently they've changed the parking rules around the old VFW building - who knew?
